Versnellingsbak = gearbox
Handrem = Handbrake or Parkingbreak
Lier = Winch
Lierrem = Winch brake
Tussenbak = Gearbox high or low gearing
Voorwielen = Front wheels
Trekhaak = Towing device at the back of the truck used for pulling trailers
U = Uit = releasing the winch cable
I = In = pulling the winch cable in

Changing gears : The hard part of driving the YA 328, the gearbox is not fully synchronized as you have already noticed, this means that you have to change gears in steps, at paved roads you only use the high gears and as a i told before, never use front wheel driving at paved roads.(personally i almost never use the first gear, it is to short under normal conditions)

for example : press the clutch and try to get the gearbox into the second gear, then speed up to between 2500 and 2800 RPM, press the clutch and get the gearbox from second gear to free, release the clutch without using the gas pedal, press the clutch again and when your RPM is about 1000 to 1500 get the gearbox from free into third gear, the exact RPM is a little different for each gear, only driving the car and trying will learn you the exact RPM for each gear.

When shifting down you need to slow down the car first to appr 1000 RPM before starting the shift down procedure, to much RPM will cause huge grinding and it will be unable to get into the lower gear, to shift down you lower your speed and RPM, press the clutch and get the gearbox to free, release the clutch and give some gas to get more RPM(2000-2500)into the engine, then press the clutch again and try to get the gearbox into the lower gear...........

I assume very old english cars use the same shifting system, maybe an older person in your neighbourhood can tell you something more about what we call "dubbel klutsen", which means double clutch.

I have used double clutching on my old Rover when the hydraulic clutch broke, 30 miles with no clutch at all!

So just to confirm, paved roads Voorwielen=U, Off-Road Voorwielen=I ?

Yes, U means Uit=off, I means In=on.
The reason for this is that the truck does not have a differential, this means with front wheel driving on all wheels will rotate exactly the same, so when you turn the steering wheel you make 1 frontwheel go faster then the other and some parts get extreme forces which they cannot handle. off road the fastest wheel just spins a little when turning to release the extra forces.
